The wishing Tree – Blurb 2023

The Wishing Tree is an improvised format where the audience’s favourite wish could come to life. Members of the audience are invited to anonymously write a wish on a piece of paper and hang it on ‘The Wishing Tree’

The cast of improvisers are asked to choose wishes at random from the tree.

Stories unfold and characters are brought to life as the hopes and desires of the wishes are honoured, no matter how big or small. The wishes, reinterpreted from the performers point of view take us on an emotional rollercoaster ride and into a night of pure magic.

Creator and director Rama Nicholas says, ‘The format is inspired from a Japanese myth and Tanabata festival in Japan, where people write their wishes on bits of paper and hang them on the trees hoping that the gods will find their wish and make it come true’.

The Myth – ‘Once a year. Two particular stars align, they represent a prince and princess who are married and very much in love, but the happy couple are separated throughout the year by the Milky Way, as they must tend to their ethereal duties for the gods.

Once a year they get their wish to be together. This is a very auspicious day for wishes to come true because the gods are happy the lovers are together… The gods often wander through the sacred forests and on this day, if they find your wish hanging on the tree – it might come true’.
